Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Support

The GBV Prevention and Support Program aims to prevent and respond to all forms of gender-based violence, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, and to provide survivor-centered support. The program focuses on prevention through education and awareness-raising, support services for survivors, and advocacy to address the root causes of GBV, such as gender inequality, harmful cultural practices, and lack of legal protection.

In regions like Wajir, where deeply entrenched gender norms and limited access to justice systems exacerbate the vulnerability of women and girls, this program works to create a safe and supportive environment where survivors can access the services they need, while also fostering a culture of zero tolerance for GBV within the community.

Program Objectives

Prevent Gender-Based Violence

Raise awareness about the negative impacts of GBV and promote gender equality through education, community engagement, and legal advocacy.

Support Survivors of GBV

Provide comprehensive survivor services including counseling, medical care, legal assistance, and safe spaces for recovery.

Strengthen Legal and Policy Frameworks

Advocate for stronger legal protections for survivors, including access to justice, safe reporting mechanisms, and the enforcement of laws against GBV.

Empower Women and Girls

Foster economic empowerment, leadership skills, and decision-making power for women and girls, to reduce their vulnerability to GBV.

Change Harmful Gender Norms

Engage both men and women in challenging harmful cultural norms, attitudes, and behaviors that perpetuate GBV, and promote gender equality at all levels.

Future Goals

In the future, APRPC seeks to expand its programs to reach more communities across the
ASAL regions of Northern Kenya, refine its strategies based on ongoing assessments, and
build stronger partnerships to support sustainable pastoral development and peace in the
region.
