Conflict Resolution and Peace Building

The Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding Program is designed to prevent conflict, resolve existing disputes, and promote peace in communities affected by historical grievances, competition over resources, and social divisions. It focuses on dialogue, mediation, and reconciliation to foster understanding between conflicting groups, creating pathways to sustainable peace. The program aims to build local capacities to manage and resolve conflicts through peaceful means, strengthen social cohesion, and create inclusive and resilient communities.

In conflict-prone regions like Wajir, where pastoral communities often experience tension over land, water resources, and inter-communal relations, this program plays a vital role in creating an atmosphere of mutual respect, collaboration, and community-driven peacebuilding.

Program Objectives

Prevent and Mitigate Conflict

Address root causes of conflict, such as resource competition, identity-based divisions, and historical grievances. Implement early warning systems and conflict prevention strategies.

Promote Dialogue and Mediation

Establish platforms for open dialogue and mediation between conflicting groups, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.

Support Reconciliation and Healing

Facilitate reconciliation processes to heal divisions caused by conflict, enabling communities to rebuild trust and cooperation.

Strengthen Community Capacity for Peace

Build local capacities for peaceful conflict resolution, including training community leaders, youth, and women in mediation, negotiation, and leadership.

Promote Social Cohesion and Inclusion

Empower marginalized groups, particularly youth and women, to engage in peacebuilding processes and decision-making.

Future Goals

In the future, APRPC seeks to expand its programs to reach more communities across the
ASAL regions of Northern Kenya, refine its strategies based on ongoing assessments, and
build stronger partnerships to support sustainable pastoral development and peace in the
region.
