The Alliance for Peaceful and Resilient Pastoral Communities (APRPC) is a Community- Based Organization formed by Team of professionals from diverse backgrounds in the region and decided to come up with a CBO dedicated to promoting peace, resilience, and sustainable development in Northern Kenya’s arid and semi-arid (ASAL) regions. These regions are characterised by dryland conditions, which pose unique challenges to pastoralist communities, including limited access to resources, recurring droughts, health risks, genderbased violence, and persistent conflicts over water and grazing land. APRPC aims to holistically address these issues by focusing on climate resilience, economic empowerment, conflict resolution, health, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV).

Mission

To create peaceful, resilient, and thriving pastoral communities in Northern Kenya by promoting inclusive development, environmental stewardship, sustainable livelihoods, and social equity.

Vision

Northern Kenya where pastoral communities coexist peacefully, possess sustainable
livelihoods, have equitable access to resources, and live in healthy, safe, and resilient
environments.

Core Values

Inclusivity: Empowering women, youth, and marginalized community members as integral parts of resilient pastoral communities.
Sustainability: Developing long-term strategies for environmental and economic resilience in arid conditions.
Peace and Justice: Reducing conflict and advocating for social justice, with a special focuson protecting vulnerable groups from GBV.
Health and Well-being: Improving access to essential health services, clean water,
sanitation, and hygiene.
Resilience: Equipping communities to withstand and adapt to climate change, resource scarcity, and social challenges.

Target Population

APRPC’s primary focus is on pastoralist communities in the ASAL regions of Northern Kenya, including Wajir, Garissa, Mandera, Marsabit, and Turkana counties. These communities are highly vulnerable to environmental changes, resource conflicts, health challenges, and socioeconomic issues. APRPC targets all community members, with particular emphasis on women, children, and youth, as well as vulnerable and marginalised groups at risk of GBV and health challenges.
