Alliance for Peaceful and Resilient Pastoral Communities (APRPC)

The Alliance for Peaceful and Resilient Pastoral Communities (APRPC) is a Community- Based Organization formed by Team of professionals from diverse backgrounds in the region and decided to come up with a CBO dedicated to promoting peace, resilience, and sustainable development in Northern Kenya’s arid and semi-arid (ASAL) regions. These regions are characterised by dryland conditions, which pose unique challenges to pastoralist communities, including limited access to resources, recurring droughts, health risks, genderbased violence, and persistent conflicts over water and grazing land. APRPC aims to holistically address these issues by focusing on climate resilience, economic empowerment, conflict resolution, health, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV).

Our Key Programs and Activities

APRPC’s primary focus is on pastoralist communities in the ASAL regions of Northern Kenya, including Wajir, Garissa, Mandera, Marsabit, and Turkana counties. These communities are highly vulnerable to environmental changes, resource conflicts, health challenges, and socioeconomic issues.

Livestock and Agriculture Support

This program seeks to empower communities to manage their livestock and agricultural activities sustainably, ensuring long-term food security, income generation, and climate resilience.

Health and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene)

The Health and WASH Program aims to improve the health and well-being of communities by providing access to clean water, promoting proper sanitation, and supporting hygiene practices.

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Support

The GBV Prevention and Support Program aims to prevent and respond to all forms of gender-based violence, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, and to provide survivor-centered support

Conflict Resolution and Peace Building

The program aims to build local capacities to manage and resolve conflicts through peaceful means, strengthen social cohesion, and create inclusive and resilient communities.

Climate Resilience and Environmental Management

The program builds community resilience by promoting climate-smart agriculture, water management practices, reforestation, and ecosystem restoration to protect and restore vital ecosystems.

Education and Capacity Building

By providing access to formal education, vocational training, and leadership development, we ensure that communities have the knowledge and skills necessary to confront and overcome challenges.

Consultancy Services

At APRPC, we are committed to supporting sustainable development in ASALs Counties through targeted consultancy services that address the region’s unique environmental and agricultural challenges

Future Goals

In the future, APRPC seeks to expand its programs to reach more communities across the
ASAL regions of Northern Kenya, refine its strategies based on ongoing assessments, and
build stronger partnerships to support sustainable pastoral development and peace in the
region.
